Parker Hempel is a Middle East Researcher at the Institute for the Study of War. He previously interned with ISW in Fall and Summer 2025 on the Axis of Resistance portfolio, focusing on Lebanon and Syria. He interned with AEI’s Critical Threats Project on the Lebanon portfolio in Spring 2025.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in War Studies from King’s College London. He is currently pursuing a Master’s in Security Studies with a concentration in intelligence and military operations at Georgetown University in the Walsh School of Foreign Service.
He has published an article based on his undergraduate dissertation at King’s College London in the “Small Wars and Insurgencies” academic journal, focusing on Victorian colonial conflicts. He has also published articles as a senior columnist for the Georgetown Security Studies Review on multiple security topics, including the Sudanese civil war, Haiti, and the War in Ukraine.
He has working proficiency in French and is currently studying Arabic.
