Veronica Iredale is a researcher at the Institute for the Study of War, where she works on the new Defense of Europe team. She brings extensive research experience from a range of internships, including roles as an economic development and tax policy research intern at the Greater Burlington Industrial Corporation and as an investigative intern for the Chittenden County Office of the Defender General in Burlington, Vermont.

Ms. Iredale successfully defended her honors thesis, “Divine Governance: Putin’s Co-optation of the Russian Orthodox Church as Authoritarian Legitimation,” at the conclusion of her undergraduate studies at the University of Vermont. She joined ISW following her participation in the 2024 Hertog War Studies Program.

She is known for developing creative and adaptive approaches to research challenges, as demonstrated by her thesis methodology. Ms. Iredale is also proficient in French. While at UVM, she was awarded the Alan P. Wertheimer Prize for Outstanding Senior Thesis and the Warren R. and Mildred Austin Prize for International Peace and Security. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and English and graduated magna cum laude. She was recognized as a Patrick Leahy Honors College Scholar, inducted into both Pi Sigma Alpha and Phi Beta Kappa, and was a recipient of the prestigious George V. Kidder Scholarship.
