Educational Programs

The educational program at the Institute for the Study of War offers classroom-style instruction, staff-rides, and other learning experiences that educate civilians in the history of war and the fundamental language and concepts which they need in order to discuss war with professionals. ISW’s seminars, courses, and other academic programs provide access to an education in the specialist language and techniques of the military to a broader audience. The podcast program will make this educational mission accessible to anyone with an internet connection. The courses, seminars, and staff rides will seek to integrate active duty and retired military officers, to provide greater contact between the professional military and those who are interested in understanding national security policy. The educational program, in conjunction with ISW's research and publications, aims to close the gap between the military’s way of understanding and describing war and the American people’s ability to follow it.
