Derik Durbin

Derik Durbin is a Geospatial Researcher supporting ISW's conflict mapping program. Before joining ISW Derik worked for the International Republican Institute supporting democracy building programs in the Asia-Pacific region. He also served in the United States Navy and was a professional archaeologist with experience in the Middle East and Asia. Since joining in 2024, Derik has supported ISW-CTP's coverage of the October 7th War as well as the Syrian Civil War. Derik’s interest in geospatial research stems from using ArcGIS as an archaeologist as well as his time in the Navy. Derik graduated from Harvard University’s Extension School with a Master of Liberal Arts in 2024 and two bachelor’s degrees, one in History and another in Anthropology from the University of Texas in 2014.
